Captains Page

Dear Members,

After what has been a very strange year as Vice Captain, I am delighted to send out my first message as Crook Golf Club Captain.

First of all, I would like to place on record my thanks to Michael Clough, for asking me to be his Vice Captain, and allowing me the honour of becoming the Captain of Crook Golf Club. Also, I would like to welcome into the Vice-Captain role Rufus Ayre, who I am looking forward to working alongside in the coming year.

For those who do not know me, I have been a member at the golf club for fast approaching 20 years. During this time, I have represented the club as a junior to more recently playing in the NDL team on a Tuesday evening. I am looking forward to the coming year, hopefully we can go ahead with some of the plans I am putting in place for the next year, which I will be announcing over the coming weeks via the club’s social media and email platforms.

The first month of the captaincy was halted by the National lockdown, however with the positive news we have had recently regarding a vaccine, let us hope we don’t suffer anymore disruption going forward and can continue to enjoy the game we all love!

During my time at the club, it has evolved drastically. The last few years especially has seen big changes with the redecoration of the clubhouse and the continuing improvement of the course. The club has had to adapt as many businesses have during the ongoing pandemic. Anita and Diane are now offering the takeaway service, which I would thoroughly recommend if you have not yet tried. Also, we have seen some big changes to the course during the lockdown, with Geoffrey, Thomas and Tom working wonders. The course is in superb condition and the regular updates keeping us all informed is a welcome addition, long may it continue.

I would like to say a big thank you to the members who have taken time to offer me support for the upcoming year, this has been greatly appreciated. Whilst talking of support, this leads nicely onto my final point, the Captains Charity!

This year I am supporting the Brain Tumour Charity in memory of a close friend who sadly passed from a Brain Tumour. The charity works in researching the illness as well as supporting those currently living with a Tumour.  I have seen what this charity does in supporting families after they have lost loved ones first hand and how much support they’ve provided. With that in mind I am delighted to have it as my charity this year.

I look forward to seeing you all on the course in the next year and hope the golfing gods are on your side the remainder of the winter and into the 2021 season.

I wish you and your families a safe Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
